Sandra Bullock Debuts in Her First Nude Scene in “The Proposal”

German-American actress Sandra Bullock, 44, has something special in store for her fans. Her latest movie "The Proposal," a romantic comedy in which she stars together with Ryan Reynolds and which opens on June 19 in the US, features her first nude scene. The actress told the press, however, that it was not the typical scenario: "Sadly, my first and last nude scene got laughs, so I had to be very secure with that. It was all about choreography. I mean, literally, when you read it on the page, you saw it, and then you realized, 'OK, there is no way to shoot this unless you are buck naked!' Then I went, 'Go to the gym, cut out the carbs’”! Ich musste die Situation also selbsicher meistern. Das wichtigste war die Choreografie. Als ich das Drehbuch las, begriff ich, dass man die Szene nur splitterfasernackt drehen könnte. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is negotiating with two top US producers for a new, contemporary version of “The Never Ending Story,” whose rights the studio recently purchased. High on WB’s wish list is Leonardo DiCaprio, who is said to have read the book during his childhood in Germany, and the Kennedy/Marshall Company as the new developers of the franchise launched by Neue Constantin and Wolfgang Petersen in 1984 for a profit of 20 million dollars. … not so literally, of course, but Siegfried and Roy are still keeping a proper distance from their tigers as they celebrated their birthday last week. No wonder. The cuddly little tiger cubs, born last year in Secret Garden, Mirage Hotel’s game preserve, where the “magicians of the century” performed, are all grown up. At birth they weighed about a kilo; today they weigh almost half a ton. For this reason the “parents” preferred to watch outside the garden while Star, Celestial, Chakra, Cosmo and their brother Svengali ripped open their presents with their huge paws. (GW/June 1, 2009)

The Final Departures from Airport Tempelhof in Berlin
Special program for the last days of operation

In a few days, on October 30, 2008, the legendary airport Berlin Tempelhof will close down for good. During the Berlin Airlift in 1948 – 1949, this airport became essential to the Berliners to survive and remained Berlin’s “Gate to the World” afterwards. On October 25 and 26, several sightseeing flights are offered by Air Hamburg departing from Tempelhof. On October 30, the final day of operation, the Austrian airline Intersky, one of the few airlines that remained faithful to Tempelhof, offers two sightseeing flights. German-born actor Eric Braeden was invited last month by the city of Hamburg to be honored for his many years of furthering transatlantic relations by a ceremony at Hamburg’s City Hall where Braeden was also asked to enter his name in the Golden Visitor’s Book of the city. In his address, Braeden stressed the strong feelings that he has for the City of Hamburg for it was from here, in 1959, that he set off for the United States.: "For me, Hamburg has always meant both home and a longing for a far-off place." Hamburg Marketing and the PR Director Peter Soppa of Soppa Medien had prepared a fun-packed visitor’s program for the Hollywood star. Der in Deutschland geborene Eric Braeden war im September zu einem offiziellen Besuch der Stadt Hamburg eingeladen worden, um ihn für seine fortwährenden Bemühungen um gute transatlantische Beziehungen mit einem Eintrag in das Goldene Buch der Stadt zu ehren. Water Restrictions in Los Angeles

On August 14, 2008, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed into law a revised city ordinance that limits how and when Angelenos can use water outdoors and imposes water restrictions on restaurants and hotels.
Residents are now prohibited from watering their lawns between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and from watering more than 15 minutes a day. Residential DWP customers who violate the rules will receive a warning and could be fined $100, for a second-time offense. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a statewide drought on June 4. The water restrictions and fines are part of the 20-year water conservation plan.

Am 14. August 2008 unterzeichnete der Bürgermeister von Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa ein neues Gesetz, dass den Bürgern von Los Angeles vorschreibt, wie und wann sie Außenbewässerungen durchführen dürfen und welche Beschränkungen es jetzt für Restaurants und Hotels gibt.
Den Bewohnern ist es nun verboten, ihre Rasen zwischen 9h und 16h und länger als 15 Minuten zu bewässern. Bewohner, die sich nicht an die neuen Vorschriften halten, werden einmal verwarnt und können bei einem zweiten Verstoß zu einer Geldbuße von 100 US Dollar, wenn es sich um Geschäftsleute handelt, von 200 US Dollar aufgefordert werden. Gouverneur Arnold Schwarzenegger hatte am 4. Juni 2008 offiziell eine staatsweite Dürre in Kalifornien erklärt. Die jetzt erlassenen Wasserrationierungsvorschriften sind Teil eines 20-Jahre-Plans zur Wassereinsparung.

First Public Images from Holocaust Archives to be Exhibited in Los Angeles and New York State

Photographer Richard Ehrlich's portfolio of the Holocaust Archives at the International Tracing Service at Bad Arolsen, Germany, illustrates the Nazi bureaucracy with images at once artistic and chilling.
Created in two visits in 2007, Ehrlich's portfolio contains 52 color, digital images. The complete portfolio is already in a number of public collections, including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., and Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. The work was first publicly exhibited at American Jewish Committee's Annual Meeting in May 2008, where it was viewed by over 1,000 people, including members of Congress, and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. Richard Ehrlichs Fotoserie, die im Archiv des Internationalen Suchdienstes und des Sonderstandesamtes der Stadt Bad Arolsen entstand, illustriert die Nazi-Bürokratie in sehr künstlerischen, aber auch schauerlichen Aufnahmen.
Einige der 52 digitalen Bilder, die während zwei Besuchen ivon Richard Ehrlich im Jahre 2007 in Bad Arolsen entstanden, sind bereits seit langem Bestandteil internationaler Sammlungen, z. B. der des amerikanischen Holocaust Memorial Museums in Washington, D.C und in Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. Richard Ehrlichs Arbeit wurde zum ersten Mal bei der Jahresversammlung des Amerikanisch-Jüdischen Komitees im Mai 2008 gezeigt. Mehr als 1000 Besucher, unter ihnen auch Abgeordnete des US-Kongress, ausländische Staatsbesucher und US-Außenministerin Condoleeza Rice, sahen die Ausstellung. VW Soon in Alabama or Tennessee

As the German car magazine “Automobilwoche” learned from several independent sources associated with the management board of Volkswagen, VW will probably situate its new US factory in Huntsville, Alabama. “The substitute,” according to a top VW manager, is the city of Chattanooga located only 130 kilometers away from Huntsville in northern bordering Tennessee.
Production at the new factory is scheduled to begin in late 2010. Alabama and Tennessee’s advantages include a well-developed auto supplier network as well as enough qualified employees. Huntsville, also called “Rocket City” in the US, is a center for the American rocket and space travel industry. Daimler’s SUV factory is located in Tuscaloosa about 200 kilometers southwest of Huntsville.

"Die Ersatzvariante", so ein VW-Topmanager, ist die nur 130 Kilometer entfernt von Huntsville gelegene Stadt Chattanooga im nördlich angrenzenden Tennessee. Die Produktion in dem neuen Werk soll Ende 2010 anlaufen.
Zu den Vorzügen von Alabama und Tennessee zählen eine gut entwickelte Struktur von Autozulieferern sowie ausreichend qualifizierte Arbeitskräfte. Huntsville in den USA auch „Rocket City“ genannt, ist ein Zentrum der amerikanische Raketen- und Raumfahrtindustrie. September 2001 in den USA sei es der deutschen Regierung um die Sicherheit der Bevölkerung gegangen und nicht darum, US-Methoden auf ihre Rechtsstaatlichkeit zu überprüfen, sagte der damalige Kanzleramtsminister.
